With more than 30 years in the retail industry, Charles Compton has an extensive background and intimate understanding of the retail landscape today. After college, he began working as a buyer for Macy’s, then began buying corporately for a chain of men’s specialty stores. He later became Executive Merchandise Manager for luxury retailer Neiman Marcus, learning the art and science of retail from some of the biggest names in the industry. These experiences sparked his interest in both the psychology of the consumer and the business of retail merchandising and buying. His passion for sourcing, executing and creating meaningful retail environments was the motivation to start his own retail consulting business focused on hospitality: Mars (Merchandising and Retail Specialists) Solutions.

Charles is energized by travel, new experiences, other cultures and understanding how the world works in different places. He enjoys discovering authentic products that are unique to a region and establishing meaningful relationships with those artisans and suppliers. Charles feels most rewarded when he creates a retail environment that is unique to a property and enriches the guest experience.

A solutions-oriented thinker, Charles is driven to create spaces that look great yet perform well, pleasing both guests and clients with his one-of-the-kind retail experiences. He is a self-described entrepreneur driven by a passion for creating, whether in the form of ideas and concepts or memories and meaningful things.
